Behind the Blogger

Hello! I am Britney Gayle G. De Sagon, a senior student at the University of Santo Tomas, taking up Bachelor in Secondary Education, Major in Mathematics.

At first, I was very hesitant to apply for the SEA-Teacher project. I don't really think I'm good enough to go out there and represent the university and the country. I tend to stay in my comfort zone where I cannot fail and be humiliated, but I thought, if I won't try, the answer will always be no. And now, here I am working on this blog to share to you what has been my 30 AMAZING days in Medan.

You'll see how we made friends into family and embraced their culture as if our own; and how Medan stood as our home when we felt alone.

Perguruan Al-Amjad

Al-Amjad is an Islamic school at Medan where we are assigned to teach. It was established 3 years ago and doing great ever since. Al-Amjad offers education from pre-school to Grade 9. The school accepts both genders as their students but divides the school rooms for each gender. A room could either be all girls or all boys. The rooms on the left side of the school are for guy students while girls are on the other side. The only chance that girls and boys interact with each other is through their school organizations and sports training. There are six sections (3 girl sections, 3 guy sections) for each grade level. Only one teacher is assigned to teach a subject in a certain grade level. In grade 7's case, they have Ma'am Khairani Syahfitri who was also assigned as my supervising teacher because I were to teach in grade 7 level. Everything else that you need to know about Al-Amjad will be on the "Blog" tab where I write about every experience we had during the practicum.
